There are nine multiplayer modes. These include a standard deathmatch mode, and the similar "Score More", which assigns different points depending on the weapon and way that a kill was done. Other modes consist of collecting or destroying as many triad symbols as possible. There are a few "tag" multiplayer modes, similar to the children's game, where a player must tag another player or moving symbols. There is also a "Hunter" mode, in which a "prey" player with no weapons has to be hunted by the rest, and a capture the flag mode. Options that can be set for a multiplayer game include player attributes, and whether or not health refills, missile weapons, or traps are spawned.
The source code to Rise of the Triad was released under the GNU GPL-2.0-or-later on 20 December 2002. Fans of the game ported it to AmigaOS, Linux, Mac OS, Xbox, Dreamcast, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS (homebrew) and 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows.[11] This has led to the game being included in the Fedora software repository, which downloads the free source port engine used as well as a free installer which downloads the shareware version's data.
In 2009, Scott Miller said that Rise of the Triad would be remade.[24] Gameplay footage of the new Rise of the Triad was revealed at QuakeCon 2012. The game was designed by Frederik Schreiber and his company Interceptor Entertainment and was released on July 31, 2013, through Steam and GOG.com.

Rise of the Triad is one of the many great '90s first-person shooters that helped launch the genre into video game stardom. Although it's often overshadowed by other early titles like Doom and Wolfenstein 3D, Rise of the Triad helped pave the way for many modern shooters. Although the original game has trouble running on modern PCs, it received a remake in 2013 that attempts to bring everything players know and love from the original into the modern era. However, the remake fails to live up to its source material.
Rise of the Triad's remake tries hard to capture the thrills of the original game, but it stumbles due to a slew of technical issues. Some longtime fans and hardcore gamers might enjoy the game's fast-paced gameplay and over-the-top style, but its flaws will be a bit too overbearing for most players. The good news is that Rise of the Triad is getting a remaster that's expected to launch this year, which will hopefully launch without the issues of the 2013 remake to give dedicated fans the modern reimagining they crave.
Rise of the Triad: Dark War was released by Apogee Software (later called 3D Realms) in 1995, just a couple of years after the arrival of Doom. The clash with id Software's legendary masterpiece didn't go that well, so the Apogee title went down in history as yet another "Doom clone" with no particularly original things to say. The game sold around 110,000 copies in addition to the shareware version downloads (Rise of the Triad: The Hunt Begins), and it was eventually remade in 2013.
Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition will include all the original RotT episodes and expansion packs, plus additional game content restored from "lost betas" and a brand-new episode created by New Blood Interactive and industry veterans. After all the gibs and exploding monks of the base game, players will be able to create new maps thanks to the integrated level editor; multiplayer includes support for online and LAN matches with multiple game modes. There's a music "jukebox" as well, and the ability to play either with 1995 or 2013 soundtracks.
